The successful candidate will join our Pre-Construction team at our Head Office in Inverkeithing, working alongside experienced colleagues and gaining exposure to projects from the earliest planning stages through to delivery. As part of the role, you will also have opportunities to attend site visits, meet subcontractors and suppliers, and visit our live projects, providing valuable insight into how projects are developed and delivered.

You will also take part in a structured two-year graduate development programme, supported by mentoring from experienced members of the team and a range of training opportunities designed to support your professional development.

We welcome applications from recent graduates or students due to graduate this year from relevant disciplines such as Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or similar.

We also encourage applications from individuals with an HNC/HND and some relevant industry experience who are looking to take the next step in their estimating career.

Graduate Estimator - Muir Construction Graduate Programme

The Graduate Estimator will support the Pre-Construction team in developing cost plans, tender submissions, and proposal documentation for a range of projects. The role will involve reviewing tender information, assisting with subcontractor and supplier enquiries, and supporting the preparation of competitive and well-structured bids.

Working closely with experienced Estimators, the successful candidate will help coordinate tender documentation, maintain estimating systems and databases, and assist with gathering and analysing project cost information. Through involvement in live tenders and project reviews, the Graduate Estimator will gain practical experience in estimating, procurement, and the early stages of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain our structured filing system for new tenders, ensuring easy retrieval and secure storage of documents.
  • Compile tender enquiry forms accurately and promptly to facilitate the bid process.
  • Issue enquiries from Subcontractors Enquiry Form and Materials Form.
  • Manage ad hoc enquiries as needed to support estimating activities.
  • Maintain and update the Estimating Sub-contractor database (ConQuest) with accurate and current information.
  • Ensure contact details and capabilities are up to date.
  • Provide general administrative support to the estimating team, including document preparation, email correspondence, and scheduling.
  • Handle phone calls, inquiries, and messages in a professional manner.
  • Ensure that all documentation and processes comply with company policies and relevant regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as required by the company to contribute to the smooth functioning of the estimating team.
  • Be an Ambassador for the company and take part in ESG & recruitment events, as required, to help promote Muir Construction and careers within the industry

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline such as Quantity Surveying, Project Management Construction Management or a related field (HNC/HND/BSc)
  • Knowledge of ConQuest is desirable, although training will be provided.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications and organisation skills.
  • Ability to work well to deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications, including excel.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work well under pressure to deliver high quality work in a demanding environment.
  • Eagerness to learn & develop and become a key part of the Pre-Construction Team.
  • Full UK Driving License
